Stacking Rewards

How to Stack Dining Rewards

Updated 26 March 2026

Your credit card rewards and restaurant loyalty points are completely independent. Every time you dine out, you can earn both simultaneously. With a few extra steps you can add reservation app credits and card portal bonuses on top.

Best Credit Cards for Stacking

American Express Gold Card

The Gold Card earns 4x at restaurants, and Amex Offers frequently add restaurant-specific bonuses of 10 to 20% extra. On top of that, the $120 annual dining credit covers up to $10/month at select partners. Stack Amex Offers before dining and you can routinely push your effective return above 8%.

Annual fee: $250 | Best for high-frequency diners

Chase Sapphire Preferred

Chase Offers appear in the Chase app and can add 5 to 15% at specific restaurant chains. Combine 3x points with Chase Offers and the points can be transferred to airline programs for potentially 50% more value than cash. Chase Dining also provides dining-specific bonuses in select cities.

Annual fee: $95 | Best for frequent travelers who dine out

Capital One Savor

Earns 3% cash back on restaurants with no annual fee, plus Capital One Offers in the Capital One app add extra cash back at specific restaurants. An excellent choice for stacking with restaurant apps because the 3% base never expires and has no category cap.

Annual fee: $0 | Best for cash back stackers

Citi Custom Cash

Earns 5% on your highest category up to $500/month, which restaurants often fill. Pair with Citi Merchant Offers and a restaurant loyalty program for strong total returns. The 5% rate with no annual fee is hard to beat for moderate restaurant spenders who keep under the monthly cap.

Annual fee: $0 | Best for focused restaurant spenders

Restaurant Loyalty Programs Worth Combining

Starbucks Rewards

Earn Stars on every purchase; redeem for free drinks and food. Combine with a 3 to 4x dining card for double earnings. The Starbucks app lets you load a registered gift card but paying directly with a credit card earns both Stars and card rewards.

Chick-fil-A One

Earn points per dollar spent at any Chick-fil-A. Pay with your dining card, scan the app, and earn both sets of rewards simultaneously. Points redeem for free food items.

Panera Sip Club

A subscription for unlimited beverages makes frequent visits very economical. Pay with a 3 to 4x dining card each time you top up your subscription to earn card rewards on the subscription fee.

OpenTable Dining Rewards

Earn 100 points per person for each reservation you make and keep through OpenTable. These points can be redeemed for dining checks. Book through OpenTable, pay with your dining card, and earn on both channels.

Seated

Seated pays you gift cards for making and keeping reservations at partner restaurants. Payments are separate from your credit card spending, so there is no conflict. Book through Seated, pay with your best dining card.

A Practical Stacking Example

Suppose you spend $80 at a restaurant. Here is what a full stack looks like:

Amex Gold 4x points (valued at 1 cpp)$3.20
Amex Offer: 15% back at this restaurant$12.00
OpenTable reservation credit$2.00
Restaurant loyalty points (2% equivalent)$1.60
Total value back on $80 spend$18.80 (23.5%)

Amex Offers of this magnitude are not always available but appear regularly in the Amex app. Stacking all layers simultaneously requires checking for active offers before each visit.
